Hi Sam, if I was restricted to using just one, it would have to be the Bladerunner. I still incorporate some elements of this strategy in my own approach to trading, although these days it is very much centred around the principles outlined in the Price Action Engine as they apply to trading price action itself.

I have a number of brokers reviews on AuthenticFX, although they are about two years old now. I am in Australia and use both IC Markets and Pepperstone, and can only report that my experience of both has been very good. Others I would consider are Dukascopy, FinFX and perhaps FxPro.
I haven’t really kept up on all the new brokers that are opening, but one that I keep hearing bad reports about and which I would definitely avoid, and which is spruiking for custom everywhere, is IronFX. Best avoided.

Polarity indicator is the combination of 20 EMA and BB middle band.
The BB middle band is actually 20 SMA.
So, why not just use 20 EMA + 20 SMA as polarity indicator?
Absolutely, in fact if you check out the original post on the polarity indicator you will see I recommend that as an alternative. That is in fact how I started out plotting the polarity indicator, by using the combination. I put it into the polarity indicator for convenience, and to retain the settings with respect to colour etc. that I found personally the most effective. But yes, as I’ve always stated you don’t need the actual polarity indicator if you are prepared to plot the two individual components separately.

I am a little confused about your entry rules. You say that the buy stop should be around 2 pips above the confirmation candle. Do mean two pips above the high or the close of that said candle?
Same question for the stop placement, two pips below the low or below the close? And vice versa for sell stop orders of course.

No off-chart indicators (those appearing below the chart window in their own window, e. g. RSI, stochastics, MACD etc) are necessary, but you may include your favourite if you find it useful or feel more comfortable having some extra confirmation. Some people might wish to incorporate Fibonacci levels and that’s fine, too.
The only indicator I do use with this strategy is an on-chart indicator, the 20 EMA . An alternative is to use the midline of the standard 20 Bollinger bands. Either works well, in fact you can use both to trade it as a Bollinger band EMA strategy. The examples here will be using the 20 EMA.
This setup can be traded on any pair. It can also be traded on any time frame, but the examples below are from 5 min charts.
It can be traded at almost any time of the day, but obviously some times are more reliable than others. For example, the early part of the Asian session may provide a decent break out and retest giving an entry, whereas the Asian afternoon session can be very slow. Then, when London opens the price may be too erratic and volatile to give any reasonable entries for any strategy.
Later again, after the initial flurry of news announcements has passed and price has settled , you may once more get a reliable entry or two. You will therefore have to adjust this strategy to the times when you are able to trade it.
The strategy is named Bladerunner because the 20 EMA acts like a knife edge dividing price. If price is above the EMA, and respecting it, and retests the EMA, it will likely reject to the long side. And if price is below the EMA, and respecting it, and retests the EMA, it will likely reject to the short side. A few examples might help to clarify:

If price is below the 20 EMA, our bias is short and we would be looking for price to move up and hit the 20 EMA, reject and then move down.
However, if price pierces the 20 EMA and closes convincingly above it, we deem price to have switched polarity and now our bias changes to long . (This can be seen occurring at the right of the above picture). From now on we would be looking for price to move down and hit the 20 EMA, reject and then move up.
An example of one definite and one possible losing trade:

Essential entry parameters for this setup are:
Price must break out of consolidation or a range prior to entry, i. e. it must be trending Price must then retest the 20 EMA successfully.
What constitutes a successful retest?
If price is above the EMA it must bounce from and stay above the EMA; and vice versa for when price is below the EMA. More specifically: The first candle that touches the EMA should close on the same side of the EMA as it approached it from.
This then becomes the signal candle. Price has now rejected from the EMA and we are looking to see if the next candle confirms the move. If the next candle continues the move away from the EMA then this candle becomes the confirmatory candle. This is a simple way to trade the strategy; if you want to play it safer you could insist on a recognisable forex candlestick pattern occurring to confirm the trade.
n. b. if the Bladerunner seems simplistic, it is because forex price action and current fundamentals are factored into trading decisions. No entry is ever taken based purely on price having rejected from the 20 EMA.
Always look for a confluence of reasons to enter the trade. For example, it’s safer to have more than just a rejection from the 20 EMA. Ideally, you would like to see this happening at the same place as an old support / resistance level, pivot level or other significant price impact point. Always be on the lookout for impending news announcements when trading this setup, especially on the lower time frame charts. I generally will not enter any trade within 30 to 45 mins before a scheduled news event, and will always wait at least 15 mins after the event before considering a trade. Always trade with the direction of the current trend, as determined by which side of the EMA or polarity indicator price is currently on.
(Note: the following parameters call for spreading your entry across two orders, but nowadays I have found that it is simpler for me to just enter one position/order per trade. However, many traders prefer to have their trade split across two positions, as this enables them more flexibility in their exits.)
A suggested approach is to open 2 orders when trading this strategy. The orders are as follows:
2 buy stop orders are placed with entry 2 pips above the confirmatory candle. Orders expire at the start of a new candle. For example, if entering limit orders on the five-minute chart, those orders will expire at the start of the next five-minute candle, unless they have already been filled by price action on the current five-minute candle. The stop loss is placed 2 pips below the signal candle that touched the 20 EMA. This particular rule is not set in stone, you may place the stop behind a recent swing point if you believe that would give a more realistic stop size. The take profit for the first order is set at an amount equivalent to the risk in pips. For example, if the risk in the trade is 20 pips, the first order’s take profit target will be set at 20 pips. Using the above examples, once price moves 20 pips in favour of the trade, the first order is closed and the stop loss on the remaining order is set to breakeven.
This remaining order’s stop is then left at breakeven until the market closes the trade, either by reaching the profit target or by stopping out at breakeven. Again, this rule is not set in stone: there may be times when you may wish to continue trailing the stop beyond breakeven, for example, when a news announcement is imminent.
Trading the Bladerunner Using the Forex Polarity Indicator.
The forex polarity indicator can is now available in the Resources Center. This is my personal favourite indicator for trading this strategy. It is used much the same as if you were using the Bollinger mid-band or the 20 EMA. The band or ribbon or stream formed by the two indicators combined, gives you a little more to work with, in my opinion. As an example, take a look at the chart below:
The yellow stream is the forex polarity indicator, consisting of the 20 EMA and the Bollinger mid-band plotted together. These settings are configurable for those who like to experiment.
The white circle indicates a morning star forming at the polarity indicator. Had you only been using one or the other of the individual indicators, you may have deemed this not to be a valid signal as it may not have actually touched it. This is one advantage to using the polarity indicator. Personally, I just prefer it as a visual representation to take my bearings from.

Hi Steve, thanks for the feedback and am glad you enjoy the Bladerunner.
What I mean by old support and resistance levels is any level where price has previously stalled, reacted and perhaps reversed direction. It doesn’t really depend on the timeframe, i. e. daily/5 minute/1 hour etc., but sometimes you will see more convincing reaction on a lower timeframe chart. Let me go and dig one up, and I’ll try to post a screenshot to show you what I mean.
Okay, here’s a couple of examples. The first is an hourly chart with two support resistance areas circled. You can see that price has reacted at two round numbers (indicated by the dashed grade lines). But it’s only when you go down to the five-minute chart and see the same areas circled again, that you see a lot more examples of price candles reacting at those levels. So this is an example of where having the round number indicator on your chart can help to signal an area of support/resistance ahead of time. I hope this helps, let me know if you need any more detail…

Bladerunner Trade Using Forex Polarity Indicator.

You’re right in suspecting the Bladerunner should only be applied in a trending market. We are trying to get a break out of a range followed by some kind of confirmation – a retest of the polarity indicator area that continues the initial momentum of the trade – to enter the trade on.
In the case you mentioned above, if the candle breaks through the polarity indicator then we consider that the trend has either broken, or that at best, price is going into a pause without forming a new trend. However, if price breaks convincingly below the polarity indicator and forms what appears to be a trend in the opposite direction, we can look for “reverse Bladerunner” الصفقات. You should be receiving this strategy – The Bladerunner Reversal – in a few days as part of the 10 Best Strategies course you signed up for.
I think the best time frame is the one you can manage most efficiently. Certainly the five-minute and 15 minute will give you a lot more opportunities, but you need to be very attentive to your charts for several hours each day in order to trade this way. If you can only afford to check the markets once or twice a day, you may be better off trying higher timeframe charts such as the four hour and daily.
I believe the Bladerunner can be traded on pretty much any currency pair, certainly other traders use pairs that I don’t such as USDJPY and so on. But for myself, as I generally trade the Asian session for a few hours around midday, I concentrate on the AUDUSD. I haven’t tried it on gold and oil etc. so you would have to check it out on those markets. I tend to only refer to them to get extra information that will help me trade the currency pairs themselves. However, technically speaking I would expect the Bladerunner to perform reasonably well on these other markets also.

I am wondering how you enter pending orders so quickly. Since you have to wait until the confirmation candle closes to know where to place your Sell Stop/Buy Stop (2 pips below/above), then the SL 2 pips above/below signal candle, then calculate the amount of lots to use (as to only risk 1%), then work out the Take Profit levels 1 & 2, then place 2 pending orders…. by the time I finish this whole process it’s too late. Is there a faster way (maybe EA) or a strategy you use to place these in a more timely fashion? I’m relatively new to fx so forgive me if there is an obvious answer staring me in the face.
You’re right, I have a script that does all the calculations in an instant and enters the order for me. It’s called Order by Stop Line, and it calculates the risk, the take profit level etc. automatically. You place the line on your chart at a level where you would like your stop to be set, ensure the line is in a selected state, and as soon as the candle closes and you decide that the entry is valid, you delete the line. The script does all the rest. I’m still running a few tests on this script, and I intend including it in an upgraded members section soon.

For example, it the price keeps moving above EMA, how to identify whether the firstc candle that touches EMA is a signal bar? And how to find the confirmation bar?
Are you making the assumption that if the price kepps moving above EMA, it will keep the trend for a period of time if the retest is successful?
Yes, though I hesitate to ever make any kind of assumption in trading 🙂 But, if all other factors such as time of day, news announcements, fundamentals, and so on are in reasonable alignment, then this does usually present is a high probability for a continuation over the short term at least.
What I mean by this is that the first candle in the pattern to touch the EMA, should at its close, be below (if approaching the EMA from below) or above (if approaching the EMA from above) the EMA. In other words, when that first candle closes, it should be seen to have REJECTED from the EMA. Yet another way to put it is that the candle must not puncture the EMA and CLOSE beyond the EMA. Notice my emphasis on the fact that only price at the end of the candle, i. e. the close, is to be taken into consideration for this. This is not a totally hard and fast rule, you may with experience bend it a little depending on your own interpretation.
If the first candle keeps moving above the EMA, then the plain vanilla Bladerunner trade is discounted, but we may – depending on subsequent price action – begin looking for Bladerunner Reversals.

If you are just trading the Bladerunner itself with no supplementary signals such as fractals, pivots, support and resistance etc. – which I wouldn’t recommend since you always want to have complementary evidence for taking a trade – you’d probably get around 40 to 50% winners, as long as you got everything else right. But when I was trading this strategy almost exclusively, I used those supplementary signals (as I always do in my trading nowadays anyway) and from memory I was getting around 55 to 60% winners.

Hi Sam, if I was restricted to using just one, it would have to be the Bladerunner. I still incorporate some elements of this strategy in my own approach to trading, although these days it is very much centred around the principles outlined in the Price Action Engine as they apply to trading price action itself.

I have a number of brokers reviews on AuthenticFX, although they are about two years old now. I am in Australia and use both IC Markets and Pepperstone, and can only report that my experience of both has been very good. Others I would consider are Dukascopy, FinFX and perhaps FxPro.
I haven’t really kept up on all the new brokers that are opening, but one that I keep hearing bad reports about and which I would definitely avoid, and which is spruiking for custom everywhere, is IronFX. Best avoided.

Polarity indicator is the combination of 20 EMA and BB middle band.
The BB middle band is actually 20 SMA.
So, why not just use 20 EMA + 20 SMA as polarity indicator?
Absolutely, in fact if you check out the original post on the polarity indicator you will see I recommend that as an alternative. That is in fact how I started out plotting the polarity indicator, by using the combination. I put it into the polarity indicator for convenience, and to retain the settings with respect to colour etc. that I found personally the most effective. But yes, as I’ve always stated you don’t need the actual polarity indicator if you are prepared to plot the two individual components separately.

I am a little confused about your entry rules. You say that the buy stop should be around 2 pips above the confirmation candle. Do mean two pips above the high or the close of that said candle?

A suggested approach is to open 2 orders when trading this strategy. The orders are as follows:

This particular rule is not set in stone, you may place the stop behind a recent swing point if you believe that would give a more realistic stop size. The take profit for the first order is set at an amount equivalent to the risk in pips. For example, if the risk in the trade is 20 pips, the first order’s take profit target will be set at 20 pips. The take profit for the second order is set at an amount equivalent to double the risk in pips. So, to use the above example, the take profit on the second order would be set at 40 pips.

Once price has moved in favour of the trade by an amount equivalent to the initial risk , one of the orders is closed (due to its reaching take profit 1 level) and the stop loss on the remaining order is moved to breakeven . Using the above examples, once price moves 20 pips in favour of the trade, the first order is closed and the stop loss on the remaining order is set to breakeven.
This remaining order’s stop is then left at breakeven until the market closes the trade, either by reaching the profit target or by stopping out at breakeven. Again, this rule is not set in stone: there may be times when you may wish to continue trailing the stop beyond breakeven, for example, when a news announcement is imminent.
Trading the Bladerunner Using the Forex Polarity Indicator.
The forex polarity indicator can is now available in the Resources Center. This is my personal favourite indicator for trading this strategy. It is used much the same as if you were using the Bollinger mid-band or the 20 EMA. The band or ribbon or stream formed by the two indicators combined, gives you a little more to work with, in my opinion. As an example, take a look at the chart below:
The yellow stream is the forex polarity indicator, consisting of the 20 EMA and the Bollinger mid-band plotted together. These settings are configurable for those who like to experiment.
The white circle indicates a morning star forming at the polarity indicator. Had you only been using one or the other of the individual indicators, you may have deemed this not to be a valid signal as it may not have actually touched it. This is one advantage to using the polarity indicator. Personally, I just prefer it as a visual representation to take my bearings from.

Hi Steve, thanks for the feedback and am glad you enjoy the Bladerunner.
What I mean by old support and resistance levels is any level where price has previously stalled, reacted and perhaps reversed direction. It doesn’t really depend on the timeframe, i. e. daily/5 minute/1 hour etc., but sometimes you will see more convincing reaction on a lower timeframe chart. Let me go and dig one up, and I’ll try to post a screenshot to show you what I mean.
Okay, here’s a couple of examples. The first is an hourly chart with two support resistance areas circled. You can see that price has reacted at two round numbers (indicated by the dashed grade lines). But it’s only when you go down to the five-minute chart and see the same areas circled again, that you see a lot more examples of price candles reacting at those levels. So this is an example of where having the round number indicator on your chart can help to signal an area of support/resistance ahead of time. I hope this helps, let me know if you need any more detail…

These are just posts on how to trade the strategies, how you actually implement the strategies is up to you. I’m not sure what you’re referring to really. Were you expecting something like a forex robot?

I assume you are referring to the polarity indicator here? If so, I wouldn’t say it will do the same job, but yes you can use it in a similar fashion.

Bladerunner Trade Using Forex Polarity Indicator.

You’re right in suspecting the Bladerunner should only be applied in a trending market. We are trying to get a break out of a range followed by some kind of confirmation – a retest of the polarity indicator area that continues the initial momentum of the trade – to enter the trade on.
In the case you mentioned above, if the candle breaks through the polarity indicator then we consider that the trend has either broken, or that at best, price is going into a pause without forming a new trend. However, if price breaks convincingly below the polarity indicator and forms what appears to be a trend in the opposite direction, we can look for “reverse Bladerunner” الصفقات. You should be receiving this strategy – The Bladerunner Reversal – in a few days as part of the 10 Best Strategies course you signed up for.
I think the best time frame is the one you can manage most efficiently. Certainly the five-minute and 15 minute will give you a lot more opportunities, but you need to be very attentive to your charts for several hours each day in order to trade this way. If you can only afford to check the markets once or twice a day, you may be better off trying higher timeframe charts such as the four hour and daily.
I believe the Bladerunner can be traded on pretty much any currency pair, certainly other traders use pairs that I don’t such as USDJPY and so on. But for myself, as I generally trade the Asian session for a few hours around midday, I concentrate on the AUDUSD. I haven’t tried it on gold and oil etc. so you would have to check it out on those markets. I tend to only refer to them to get extra information that will help me trade the currency pairs themselves. However, technically speaking I would expect the Bladerunner to perform reasonably well on these other markets also.

I am wondering how you enter pending orders so quickly. Since you have to wait until the confirmation candle closes to know where to place your Sell Stop/Buy Stop (2 pips below/above), then the SL 2 pips above/below signal candle, then calculate the amount of lots to use (as to only risk 1%), then work out the Take Profit levels 1 & 2, then place 2 pending orders…. by the time I finish this whole process it’s too late. Is there a faster way (maybe EA) or a strategy you use to place these in a more timely fashion? I’m relatively new to fx so forgive me if there is an obvious answer staring me in the face.
You’re right, I have a script that does all the calculations in an instant and enters the order for me. It’s called Order by Stop Line, and it calculates the risk, the take profit level etc. automatically. You place the line on your chart at a level where you would like your stop to be set, ensure the line is in a selected state, and as soon as the candle closes and you decide that the entry is valid, you delete the line. The script does all the rest. I’m still running a few tests on this script, and I intend including it in an upgraded members section soon.
Could you explain what does it mean by “The first candle that touches the EMA should close on the same side of the EMA as it approached it from”?
For example, it the price keeps moving above EMA, how to identify whether the firstc candle that touches EMA is a signal bar? And how to find the confirmation bar?
Are you making the assumption that if the price kepps moving above EMA, it will keep the trend for a period of time if the retest is successful?
Yes, though I hesitate to ever make any kind of assumption in trading 🙂 But, if all other factors such as time of day, news announcements, fundamentals, and so on are in reasonable alignment, then this does usually present is a high probability for a continuation over the short term at least.
What I mean by this is that the first candle in the pattern to touch the EMA, should at its close, be below (if approaching the EMA from below) or above (if approaching the EMA from above) the EMA. In other words, when that first candle closes, it should be seen to have REJECTED from the EMA. Yet another way to put it is that the candle must not puncture the EMA and CLOSE beyond the EMA. Notice my emphasis on the fact that only price at the end of the candle, i. e. the close, is to be taken into consideration for this. This is not a totally hard and fast rule, you may with experience bend it a little depending on your own interpretation.
If the first candle keeps moving above the EMA, then the plain vanilla Bladerunner trade is discounted, but we may – depending on subsequent price action – begin looking for Bladerunner Reversals.

If you are just trading the Bladerunner itself with no supplementary signals such as fractals, pivots, support and resistance etc. – which I wouldn’t recommend since you always want to have complementary evidence for taking a trade – you’d probably get around 40 to 50% winners, as long as you got everything else right. But when I was trading this strategy almost exclusively, I used those supplementary signals (as I always do in my trading nowadays anyway) and from memory I was getting around 55 to 60% winners.

Hi, Glad you are enjoying the Bladerunner. It can be traded on any time frame, but when I was doing Bladerunner trades constantly I found trading off the five-minute charts to be best for me anyway. Of course, always referring to higher time frames to get a feel for longer term trend.

Hi Sam, if I was restricted to using just one, it would have to be the Bladerunner. I still incorporate some elements of this strategy in my own approach to trading, although these days it is very much centred around the principles outlined in the Price Action Engine as they apply to trading price action itself.

I have a number of brokers reviews on AuthenticFX, although they are about two years old now. I am in Australia and use both IC Markets and Pepperstone, and can only report that my experience of both has been very good. Others I would consider are Dukascopy, FinFX and perhaps FxPro.
I haven’t really kept up on all the new brokers that are opening, but one that I keep hearing bad reports about and which I would definitely avoid, and which is spruiking for custom everywhere, is IronFX. Best avoided.

Polarity indicator is the combination of 20 EMA and BB middle band.
The BB middle band is actually 20 SMA.
So, why not just use 20 EMA + 20 SMA as polarity indicator?
Absolutely, in fact if you check out the original post on the polarity indicator you will see I recommend that as an alternative. That is in fact how I started out plotting the polarity indicator, by using the combination. I put it into the polarity indicator for convenience, and to retain the settings with respect to colour etc. that I found personally the most effective. But yes, as I’ve always stated you don’t need the actual polarity indicator if you are prepared to plot the two individual components separately.

I am a little confused about your entry rules. You say that the buy stop should be around 2 pips above the confirmation candle. Do mean two pips above the high or the close of that said candle?
Same question for the stop placement, two pips below the low or below the close? And vice versa for sell stop orders of course.
